Universal Studios to release Blu-ray discs

Universal's president Craig Kornblau said this today "While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray." This means that Universal studios, the only stdio to release HD DVD exclusitivly since inception, has chosen to release their movies on the competing Blu-ray format. This is part of a chain reaction of bad news for HD DVD and the HD DVD camp, starting with Warner's Blu-ray announcement stating that they will be releasing movies exclusivly in the blu-ray format. Other notable events in this chain reaction include netfix phasing out HD DVD discs, Wal-mart to stop selling HD DVD players in stores, Best Buy officially reccomending Blu-ray over HD DVD to customers, and Toshiba discontinuing HD DVD support. Looks like the war is over for HD DVD, with only Paramount/dreamworks and the adult industry the only studios left to make an announcement. Let's all hope all the HD DVD supporters will be taken care of by blu-ray hardware manufacturers adding HD DVD support to their players and Blu-ray 2.0 profile players come soon, so HD DVD friendly people can have the web features and easy updates that they are used to, as well as the famous "U-control" interface that Universal studios used in many of their HD DVD releases, allowing multiple different interactive features to happen at once while you watch the movie.
