Lg electronics to continue Dual format support HD DVD Blu-ray combo drives still nessecary

In wake of the recent Toshiba HD DVD press release Lg electronics has stared that they will Still release dual format High def players, labeled "LG Superblu". Lg is ruling that Blu-ray is the dominating format, but they said "that does not rule out HDDVD immediately as there are still a number of consumers who have chosen HDDVD and begun to build a HDDVD collection." Continuing on, saying "at this present moment in time, it is necessary to provide a player which supports both formats and therefore create simplicity and convenience for the existing HDDVD consumer." implies that LG is trying to capture the 1 million plus HD DVD supporters into adopting dual format solutions, as well as new High def purchasers still intrested in movies now instead of waiting possbily years for the couple movies they want to be released on Blu-ray disc.

LG is the first company to make a dual format solution, releasing the BH100 in January 07, offering basic movie playback for both HD DVD and blu-ray discs... They also made the first Dual format "fully functional" combo player fully supporting HD DVD's web interactivity, web updates, and Both blu-ray and HD DVD's picture in pircture interactivity features. LG also makes combo HD DVD and Blu-ray drives for PC systems for less than the cost of an HD DVD only or a Blu-ray only drive. No word yet on HD DVD support form the other dual format hardware supporters, including HP, Gateway, Acer, and Samsung, who recently announced their second Dual formay blue player, the BDP-UP5500 as slated for release in June 2008.
